Exactly 75 years ago today, the UK's first dedicated bike path – or "safety track for cyclists", as a Guardian report called it – was opened alongside the A40 in west London.Even then, the UK was lagging behind other nations in Europe, notably Holland, where such paths had been around for some time. |
