A major earthquake that has recently rocked Haiti killing thousands of people has raised a question that is the Industrial City equipped to respond to the natural disaster. With more than seven lakh buildings in Kanpur, are there any guesses as to how many of them will stand, if a major earthquake hits the city in the future? |

Fire-activated sprinklers are certainly a good idea in public places, particularly residential facilities. But should they be required by law in every private residence? The state Building Code Review Board thinks so, and on Dec. 11 voted to require sprinkler systems for all new homes built after April 1, 2012. |
